An Urgent Need for Buses for Children with Physical Challenges The Al Hussein Society for the Habilitation and Rehabilitation of the Physically Challenged (AHS) is an NGO actively participating in improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Jordan. AHS has been in existence for over 30 years, and every year we provide comprehensive services to 2500 – 3000 persons with disabilities all over Jordan. Through our school, which is one of our programs we serve 100 students from first to third grade. We work as a team to make every day a special day for the children, who have been destined to use wheelchairs and have many physical limitations. They come every morning in our buses, they study, play, sing, exercise, and learn how to overcome their physical disabilities and be part of the community with the help of highly trained therapists and technicians. They have great hopes and greater potentials, but constantly face obstacles that hold them back. As poverty goes hand in hand with disability over 50 % of our children live under very poor conditions, with very limited resources available to them. At AHS we dedicate our resources to assist the children every day. We currently have expenses that exceed JD 700.000 annually and due to the law of economics this number continues to increase. Our fleet of buses is over-depreciated and the cost of their maintenance far outweighs their use. As a result, we are in desperate need for new buses that can transport our children from all areas in Jordan. It will cost JD 65.000. We hope you can help us in this endeavor!
